Jason Slater, MD
Introduction
I am a radiation oncology physician who specializes in the care of patients with head and neck cancer. After completing my training in proton therapy at Massachusetts General Hospital, I joined the Massachusetts General Physician Organization in the department of radiation oncology to provide clinical care, educate trainees, and conduct clinical research on head and neck cancers to enhance our knowledge and quality of patient care
Area of Excellence: Clinical Expertise and Innovation
My clinical interests and expertise center around the practice of radiation oncology. I have been involved in clinical work, providing treatment for patients afflicted with all types of cancer, with a focus on patients with head and neck cancer. My training has also involved treatment of rare cardiac cancers with proton beam therapy, a technique that has potential to be utilized to treat cardiac arrhythmias as well as other benign and functional diseases.
Teaching
I have been actively involved in educating medical students and residents during my residency, and more recently, my fellowship. I plan to continue teaching residents and medical students through supervising in clinical care and formal lectures.
Supporting Activity – Investigation
In addition to providing administrative oversight, clinical care, and teaching, I have been conducting clinical research on head and neck cancer and proton therapy. I am currently in the process of submitting a manuscript on chemosensory outcomes for nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients treated with proton therapy, and will be investigating neuroendocrine and neurocognitive outcomes in lower grade glioma patients treated with proton therapy.
