Dr. Sil is a radiation oncology resident at NYU Langone Medical Center. He completed an MD and PhD at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine in 2023, where his research focused on retrotransposons ("jumping genes") and protein assembly and aggregation. He specifically studied the role of phase separation of retrotransposon-encoded proteins in the assembly of functional ribonucleoprotein complexes and how the properties of these assemblies allow for successful replication within the mammalian genome and promote replication stress. He is looking forward to further studying these elements in the early stages of malignant transformation in GI cancers, during which pre-cancerous cells must adapt to the aberrant expression of these elements.
